Pastoral Care Chaplain

We are seeking a Chaplain to join our Pastoral Care team on the Adrian Dominican Sisters Motherhouse Campus in Adrian, MI.  This is a full time, year-round position working alongside a five-person ecumenical team that supports the Sisters' Catholic Spirituality. You will work closely with our nursing and administrative team to support and celebrate the Adrian Dominican Sisters in their spiritual life and provide them with religious and spiritual guidance in the comfort of their home here at the Dominican Life Center, which is a Continuum of Care Retirement Community located on the Motherhouse campus.

Hours and Pay:   Monday-Friday with flexible hours to accommodate needs. This is a salary position, pay dependent on experience. Weekends and holidays as assigned, some 24 hour on-call periods as assigned.



  • Supports Sisters in deepening their spiritual growth.
  • Journeys with Sisters through life's celebrations and challenges.
  • Accompanies Sisters during illness and during times of hospitalization.
  • Supports Sisters in addressing end-of-life issues with autonomy.
  • Being present with Sisters who are transitioning into eternal life and accompanying their friends, families, and co-workers.
  • Collaborates with Administration and co-workers, interdisciplinary teams, Chapter Prioresses, and the Liturgical Ministries Department.
  • Pursues opportunities for professional development in gerontology and spiritual care.




  • Graduate Degree in one of the following: Master of Divinity (M.Div), Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies (MAPS), or Masters in Theology, Pastoral Ministry or equivalent
  • National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) certified and/or Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) certified and/or demonstrated equivalency
  • Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), minimum of 1 unit required, full year preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Compliance with Catholic Medical Ethics and an understanding of basic medical terms.
  • Well-grounded in relationship to God and practice of prayer.
  • Able to function under stress and to cope with crisis and grief situations.
  • Experience with, and ability to be present, supportive and compassionate when engaging all sisters, especially those living with dementia and memory loss.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Be able to move from location to location on campus.
  • Have a valid driver's license and be able to drive when necessary.
  • Be able to assist Sisters in and out of vehicles and buildings as necessary.
  • Be sighted, able to hear well and able to lift as least 45 pounds.
